Welcome back to SCB. If I remember, you had another bird?? What happened?

As for your Ekkie's cage aggression; I would say definitely do NOT encourage this at all. It will only get worse and in the case of an emergency where you had to retrieve him/her right away, you will get seriously bit.
As of right now when you are getting nipped, do not react. Simply continue on and have your bird continue to step up on you. Give lots of praise when he does for positive reinforcement get the best reactions.

As for clicker training, I do not have any experience with it but there are members here who do. Here is one past discussion we had in regards to it:

I purchase a clicker for use in training the facility's bird.
I have been reading up a little before I begin.
The main points are that you click and give a reward immediately after the bird does something desirable.
You ignore bad behavior.
I'm still reading but that kinda sums it up.
I'm sure there are more tips and tricks I just haven't gotten there yet.
I'm taking a break from scrubbing cage, playground and travel case.

Congrats on your new baby. I love my eclectus.

I am by far no expert on bird behavior.........however I do have a 10 month old eclectus female and I know that she went through a VERY NIPPY stage. I understand that her clutch mate did as well and I know of two other female eclectus that also went through a very nippy stage. My guess is that they go through this nippy stage and you just have to work through it with lots of patience and as someone else said........do not react and give lots of praise. Continue to handle, handle, handle.

Good luck with your new baby.

Clicker training is somewhat more complicated that what you wrote. You have to shape behaviors, work in very small steps and there are different ways of teaching behaviors. It's not just click and treat. Your click needs to have very, very precise timing also, even a second too late can be worthless. You can just confuse the animal by doing clicker training inappropriately. My advice would be to either buy a book, a video or join a forum (or better yet, do all three) and learn about clicker training before you start. It took me a week or two to read the book, practice clicking, and watch a video before I felt comfortable and even then I wasn't perfect.
Have you had birds before? Sometimes the best thing is to learn to read their body language and build a trusting relationship. With a baby that shouldn't be too hard.
Welcome back.

I seem to remember a period of time with Baby when she was very young that she would nibble a bit too hard on our fingers. I always thought it was something birds did when they were young, testing out their beaks and how they feel things with it and their tongue. Problem is that our fingers, having so many nerves in them, can't take that pressure because it hurts. (In other words they don't understand the strength of their beaks.) I agree with discouraging the behavior.
